Dr. Daneshmand (Aka: Dr. D) has been a practicing physician in San Diego, California as a Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) specialist. MFM’s or high-risk pregnancy specialists are internal medicine physicians for pregnancy and act as consultants to their ob/gyn, midwife, family practice colleagues.

They are also fetal radiologists performing fetal surveys as early as 12 weeks of one’s pregnancy. While, modern medicine has allowed us to live longer, we are unfortunately not living healthier.

About Pregnancy's

Pregnancy is the term used to describe the period in which a fetus develops inside a woman's womb or uterus.

Pregnancy is also a window into our lifetime health. You may be aware that if a woman has preeclampsia in her pregnancy and delivers prematurely, she has a 8x increased risk of dying from cardiovascular complications.

If a mom has gestational diabetes, she has increased risk for the development of diabetes in her lifetime. We can reduce these risks but focusing on the woman and just not on specific organs such as the uterus, etc.

Women as you are aware, are the CEO’s of our community and without their good health, there is degradation of the family life, work unit and our community as a whole.

Pregnancy is the term used to describe the period in which a fetus develops inside a woman’s womb or uterus. Pregnancy usually lasts about 40 weeks, or just over 9 months, as measured from the last menstrual period to delivery. Health care providers refer to three segments of pregnancy, called trimesters.

High-risk Pregnancies

As an obstetrician and gynecologist specializing in maternal and fetal medicine, I have collaborated with teams to document outcomes in high-risk pregnancies. By assessing a large cohort of women with prenatally diagnosed vasa previa, our team was able to identify the percentage of patients without risk factors, which was necessary to compare delivery timing and indications for singletons and twins. Planned preterm delivery for women with prenatally diagnosed vasa previa frequently resulted in elective delivery for singletons with frequent anomalies and respiratory distress syndrome. Findings led to the understanding of risk-benefits for vasa previa to reinforce the recommendation to screen routinely for cord insertion site. This body of work was a significant finding supplementing our under standing of delayed cord clamping in term and preterm infants. I have also collaborated with teams to better understand the implications from both the neonatal and maternal perspectives on delayed cord clamping and umbilical cord milking in term and preterm infants.
